Beware! Take Heed!

Be not deceived and led astray!

For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. ~ Isaiah 9:16

Those in a position of leadership who cause others to go astray will ultimately answer before Jesus Christ and the Bible tells us that their condemnation will be sure. This in no way excuses those who were led astray, as God will hear no excuses from either side. He has given us His printed word, the Bible and has preserved it through the centuries, told us to study, and sent His Spirit to help us understand. This leaves us with no valid excuse for not knowing the truth;

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: ~ Romans 1:20

We cannot afford to leave the destiny of our soul entirely in the hands of another, as they cannot speak or live for us, nor can they stand before God in our place. We as Individuals are responsible for our own salvation, what we believe and how we live. The apostle Paul admonishes each of us;

So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. ~ Romans 14:12 ~ Philippians 2:12

A Pastor or an Evangelist laboring according to the written word and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God is an honorable man and one to be heeded as the Bible informs us. He is charged with protecting your soul to the best of his ability, but he cannot make you believe the truth or force you to walk the walk. He is only responsible for so much and the rest falls on the individual under his care. Fortunately there are still such Godly men standing in pulpits every week across America, but their numbers are dwindling based on a number of findings. Support these men and pray for them to continue to stand strong. Be a help to them because they need an encouraging word once in a while as well as anyone.

Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. ~ Hebrews 13:7

Unfortunately all who claim to be walking in Truth are not, and such men, instead of being a help, are a danger to the very soul of those he influences. Folks a reminder here for us all that there is a difference in walking, or constantly teaching or living in error and in mis-speaking or misunderstanding something. After careful consideration, prayer and perhaps consulting with the Deacons we should most certainly consider fleeing the teaching of false doctrine where ever it originates from. If it is indeed a false doctrine then we have no choice but to turn away and flee or we will end up destroyed as Isaiah said in our opening verse.

Jesus is the only infallible man to ever walk this planet. He is the one we owe our trust, allegiance, devotion, and praise to. It would be healthy for each of us to do a check from time to time asking ourselves where do our loyalties lie. Are we trusting in the written Word of God, or are we allowing our feelings and emotions to dictate our Spiritual decisions? In times of need, do we turn to Jesus Christ, or do we run to the preacher first? Who are we seeking as the final authority for doctrine and teaching, is it the Holy Spirit of God, or to the Bible commentators?

Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. ~ Luke 11:35; 1 Corinthians 10:12

Some of those who would be leaders, are simply blind and ignorant of God’s Truth, because they have not applied themselves to proper prayer and study or they went to one of the numerous seminaries that have capitulated to the liberal and false doctrines of men. Others come as an angel of light, some of them claiming new revelation and exclusive understanding of the Bible, when in fact, they may well be ravening wolves who hate Gods truth and hope to see it banished from the earth. Here again personality too often plays more of a role than it should and this is why we see so many wolves and false teachers continue year after year. In those instances where personality wins out over sound Biblical teaching and discernment the people have quenched the Holy Spirit. Otherwise they would know that the one they are sitting under was not God sent. God gives every born again Christian a measure of discernment1 and tells us to exercise it that it may grow in order to be of benefit in such situations. Unfortunately some have simply made excuses for the teacher of falsehood and ignored Gods warnings. Others were never born again to begin with and have no ability to discern Spiritually, therefore they will embrace almost anything.

But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. ~ Hebrews 5:14

In another example of how our Bible ignorance leaves us vulnerable to the wiles of the enemy comes when we tell ourself; He is a preacher or pastor, he knows more than I do on the subject. Folks, that may or may not be the case so it is always wise to be guided by the Spirit of God and our Bible knowledge, nothing else. Never let human carnal reasoning rule out or dismiss the little pricks the Spirit of God often gives. Better to miss something good than to be a part of something wicked and blasphemous.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. ~ Matthew 24:4; Philippians 3:2; Matthew 7:15

To believe any preacher or pastor would purposefully lead us down the wrong path away from the truth of God's Word can understandably be difficult to accept. Unfortunately such thoughts are naive and show how little we understand about the struggle for souls. There are many such leaders who knowingly lead people away from God because they serve Lucifer and believe he will ultimately triumph. There are others who should not even be in ministry because they don't believe a word of the Bible. They are in it for the money, the prestige, they like being the center of attention, or figure it is an easy way to make a living, take your pick and they are out there folks. So it is no wonder the New Testament alone gives so many take heed and beware warnings. Only the foolish would discount and ignore such numerous messages of danger because if you are truly saved, the Devil has you in his sights and is trying in various ways to deceive you. Next we will examine one more of many warnings from the Lord on this subject of being deceived or led astray.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. ~ Colossians 2:8

Philosophy, as used here, is science that attempts to explain the universe and everything in it by cause and effect. It is a desire and a search for knowledge outside of God and His Biblical laws. Spoil means to corrupt, to ruin. This warning in Colossians is being ignored today as countless individuals and whole churches are seduced on a regular basis. Whether knowingly or not, these folks are putting their trust and faith in false science and doubting the Bible. The carnal or worldly folks trust in this same science to explain what is to them the foolish things of God 1 Corinthians 1:27. Actually they have made science and philosophy their god and they trust in it fully. It feeds their vanity of having a supposedly superior knowledge and wisdom, which in reality is just the opposite. An example would be The Big Bang Theory. Some have been convinced that this is fact and they try and weave God and Genesis into the picture. Another would be Evolution, as well as a denial of Noah’s Flood, claiming it is scientifically impossible to flood the entire world, therefore they believe it was a regional flood. These teachings are in direct opposition to the God of the Bible yet many professing to be Christians have embraced them in one form or another.

The apostate philosophers today who profess to be Christians yet embrace and promote this unbiblical babbling of science, don’t want to be known as a peculiar people Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 2:9. Instead they want to cozy up to the world and believe as the unsaved do so as to be accepted by the world and worldly people. First of all for Christians friendship with the world is enmity 2 with God James 4:4. Paul warned the young minister Timothy about the false science and it’s ability to lead those who embrace it astray.

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: ~ 1 Timothy 6:20

Satan knows the vain desires of the flesh, the desire to be accepted and so he sends his ministers, appealing to the vanity of the people, he soon has them lapping up teachings and beliefs from the pit of Hell while thinking it is Holy Writ.

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. ~ 2 Peter 3:17

Not that we need science to validate our faith, we do not, but the fact is that every year true scientists are surprised by what they are finding as new discoveries repeatedly verify the Bible record. Increasing numbers of those who are honest, whether Christian or not are stepping up and speaking up. Don’t expect to hear about it on the evening news though it makes the naysayers look bad.

Friends, there will be no passing the blame as has so often been done since Adam and Eve in the garden. We must be ready that we may have boldness in the day of judgment 1 John 4:17. Many who are in church every Sunday are their own worst enemy and make the Devil’s job easy because they are not doing their part to stand.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ~ Ephesians 6:11

Daily read the Bible and prayerfully study so you will not be led astray. The devil is working hard, are you?

It is my prayer that each of us will hear those coveted words, Well done thou good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ~ Matthew 25:21 tiny cross
