Where are the men with fire in their bones, who speak God's Word with power and authority given only by the Holy Ghost? Men who are the spiritual leaders of their home and family are far too few in number today. Where are the aged men who are sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, and in patience? Where are the women becoming holiness, who are
shamefaced and humble,1 being supportive of, and obedient to their husbands, mothers to their children and grandchildren? Women who are teaching the younger women to love their children and their husbands, to be discrete, keepers at home, teaching good things.2 Where are the men and women who hunger after the Lord and His Word more than they do the things of this world? In other words,
Where are the real Christians?
John Huss (1369-1415) was one of the real Christians, who, upon learning the truth spoke out and maintained that Christ, not Peter was the foundation of the Church, and that some Popes had been heretics. Branded a heretic by the Roman Catholic Church, John Huss would finally be burned at the stake where he is reported to have stated:
In the truth of the gospel which I have written, taught, and preached, I die willingly and joyfully today.
The Pope had promised John Huss safe passage to and from an inquiry into his teachings where he was ultimately arrested and sentenced to death after a mock trial. When asked about his promise of safe passage the Pope responded:
When dealing with heretics, one is not obligated to keep his word.
How many know that this same Roman Catholic Church is seducing millions today that are not a part of their church system, as they pretend to have changed and mended their ways. They have changed nothing, only their tactics have become somewhat more subtle. Read the Catholic Catechism which sets forth their beliefs and practices in every area and literally fills a book with their heretical, unBiblical beliefs. Men like John Huss would be astonished and heartbroken today to see how much of Roman Catholic doctrine, belief, and practice has crept into most Christian churches and the lives of those who attend. The number is alarming.
Today we desperately need men like John Huss and the other hundreds of thousands who died as he did with no thought of self, but only of Christ and His followers. The Church needs men who acknowledge that the Bible has authority over and above all men and earthly law, and are not afraid to say so. The devil has come as an angel of light quietly introducing his doctrines and beliefs into mainstream churches and because people do not read their Bibles, or perhaps don't believe it if they do read, this treachery has happened. What a blessing it would be to see men and women defend the truth of God's Word with the vigor they defend error and careless living. Men and women whose only goal is to speak the truth regardless of the consequences. Are YOU prepared to
die willingly and joyfully today for Christ and His written Word?
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. ~ Romans 12:1
Most of us will never be called to be burned at the stake or to have our heads sliced off, but God has called all of us to deny the desires of this flesh and the temptations of this world. Surely we can do this much for the one who went to the cross for us.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. ~ 1 John 2:16 ~ Colossians 3:2 ~ Romans 8:5 ~ 1 Corinthians 6:20 ~ Romans 8:13
Folks, it all boils down to the following verse.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. ~ Romans 8:14
This life on earth is but a vapor that will soon vanish.3 The life to come is for eternity, so doesn't it make sense that we should be investing in the long term? John Huss and thousands more gladly lay down that which they could not keep (this life) for that eternal life to come. So if we understand the Gospel and have our priorities straight shouldn't we be glorifying the One who forgave our sins, and shouldn't we be working to bring as many souls as possible to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? Instead, too many who say they are Christians are behaving as though this were their permanent home and they are settling into this life concerned primarily with being comfortable, both physically and economically. If you've ever been camping you know you don't have all the luxuries of home (some now days come close I suppose) and as much as you enjoy camping out, you look forward to getting home to familiar comforts. This is similar to how we should see ourselves here on earth. Once we are born again Heaven becomes our home and we are briefly passing through this world and it could be said we are just
camping out. Friends, the saints of old understood this fact and it reflected in their daily lives.
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. ~ Hebrews 11:13emphasis added
Only when we deny ourselves and put Christ and His Word at the center of our lives, can we ever hope to become real Christians that God can use and that glorify Jesus Christ. Bible reading and study should be a regular part of each day and everything else we read, watch, participate in, say, and hear must be filtered through what the Bible teaches.
Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, [this is referring to much more than sex despite what some have believed] which war against the soul; ~ 1 Peter 2:11
It takes fire in the bones and a little sweat of the brain (study of the Word) to become a real Bible Christian soldier for Jesus Christ and this lost world. If you have been born again you have been called to be a real Bible Christian. Please, don't let Jesus find you AWOL.

- 2That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. ~ Titus 2:4-5
