The Price of Sin

A Hidden Epidemic

Fornication and Adultery have become epidemic in this country and much of the world. Our children are now leading at the top of the list.

A few years ago I came across an article about the increasing numbers of people needing free services for sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) and how that was putting a huge strain on the United Kingdom and had even collapsed some segments of their public health care. Curiosity led me to do a few searches on the Internet for statistics here in the United States.

After reading countless articles, viewing charts, graphs, and videos I have to say I’m just plain sick about the nasty bunch of people we have become. No better than animals if the numbers are allowed to tell the story. Beginning with ten year olds on up, the STD infection rate is nothing less than staggering. College campuses and military bases have the highest rates of infection in the country, and homosexuals as a group top the list, but it is bad everywhere. Young, old, male or female, rich or poor all are susceptible and in fact are a part of the statistics.

The CDC reports that young people ages 15-24 are responsible for over fifty percent of those new cases reported each year.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) study published in 2014, and based on ONLY the eight most common STD infections, there are at any given time at least 110 Million STD infections in the U.S.. There are 20 Million new cases diagnosed and reported each year but the CDC says most sexually transmitted disease infections are not routinely reported by health agencies and therefore CDC reports represent only a fraction of what is really going on. That leaves hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of these infections undetected and unreported.

Those eight most common sexually transmitted disease infections in the study are chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B virus (HBV), genital herpes, HIV, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis and trichomoniasis. These preventable sexually transmitted infections are costing the U.S. Government taxpayers 16 Billion Dollars ANNUALLY just for the medical treatment. As we know there are many more costs to society than just the medical expenses.

The CDC reports that young people ages 15-24 are responsible for over fifty percent of those new cases reported each year. Studies show some states are worse than others and some towns, some schools and military bases are worse than others, but no one has anything to be proud of.

In all my reading I did not find a word written to indicate there was anything in anyway wrong with the sexual activity that is spreading these infections. There were numerous sites which make it their mission to educate about safer sex, or to hand out material to aid people engaging in the same activity while lessening their chances of exposure to one of the infections. However I encountered no one saying that sex outside of heterosexual marriage is wrong while doing this study. Two sites briefly mentioned that abstaining from sexual contact is one option but immediately went on to promote their safer practices.

For the last fifty or sixty years this society has really taken a nosedive as regards our moral position as a people and as a nation. No longer is moral excellence or even lukewarm morality taught and encouraged in all public institutions as it once was. However God has not lowered His requirements or His standards.

Our colleges have become cesspools of immorality and disease. Young men and women are becoming infected with things that will render some of them forever sterile, unable to bear children, or cause them to suffer outbreaks of skin lesions and unsightly sores for a lifetime, and many will die early as a result of their sexual promiscuity.

Generations are growing up believing sexual freedom is normal, natural, preferred, and no big deal. Many of them believe that the commonplace fornication and adultery we see today has always been winked at and shrugged off. Whose fault is that? I’d say it is the fault of parents, grandparents, pastors, and Government and all of them WILL give an accounting to God of why they did not speak against such behaviors. Why they did not teach the young people chastity and how to live a Godly life or at the very least how to control their lustful appetites. Sex outside of a marriage to someone of the opposite sex is not alright, it is a sin before a Holy God and every child needs to know this.

Many treat the suggestion of abstinence as a dirty word and inhumane behavior claiming that abstinence is harmful. Can this be called anything but what it truly is, a worshiping of the body and flesh.

Frankly, these numbers from the CDC are frightening for our nation and personally disgusting in every way. As we have stated, these numbers and costs are from only the eight most common STD infections, and don’t include the dozens of other sexual infections caused by this immoral promiscuity. People have the ability to conduct themselves better than do the animals who go after whoever, whatever, whenever, the urge strikes them. One does not die when deprived of sex, I assure you, so if you are one of the statistics engaging in sex outside of a marriage with a member of the opposite sex, and have been either infected in the past, the present, or will be in the future based on your behavior, repent and get your act together while you can do so.

These infections and this taxpayer expense is absolutely unnecessary and preventable. Think how much of our infrastructure could be repaired if $16 Billion dollars were invested every year. Those dollars would make a big difference in a lot of legitimate needs this country has, including elderly care, veterans, children, all of us. Instead, that 16 billion dollars is going to treat diseases brought about by a hedonistic self serving people who unable to control their passions. Please understand, I am in no way advocating we forgo treating these people, but I am lamenting the fact that the need for such a senseless and immoral expense even exists.

The word used in the Bible to describe those in the last days who will be ruled or dominated by their lusts is incontinent. These lusts will guide, even control peoples lives as they will be unable to control themselves and the lusts that fill their hearts. In other words they will do anything to fulfill the wants and desires of their bodies. This is already happening and growing around the world.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good. ~ 2 Timothy 3:2-3 (emphasis added)

For those who may be unfamiliar with the King James Bible please don’t think for a minute that the word men excuses women. It does not, as the word men here represents mankind. Many women today are just as bad as any man ever was for promiscuity.

God told us how to avoid these heartaches, but man has not listened. Instead he has mocked, and ignored the warnings, yet he does not hesitate to curse and complain when the consequences come upon him. Jesus Christ made a way to escape this bondage so that we would not act in so lascivious and sinful a manner as many do today. Many treat the suggestion of abstinence as a dirty word and inhumane behavior claiming that abstinence is harmful. Can this be called anything but what it truly is, a worshiping of the body and flesh.

The truth of the matter is that older folks should be teaching the younger people proper behavior and to be a living example for them. Young people need to get serious and learn something that might save their health, their future happiness, and their soul.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. ~ James 1:15

Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD. ~ Psalms 83:16 tiny cross
