Scripture Verse King James Bible New International Version Comments
Proverbs 21:14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom, strong wrath. KJV A gift in secret soothes anger, and a bribe concealed in the cloak pacifies great wrath. NIV "bribe" - to gain influence over or to corrupt. Influence a person to act dishonestly.
Proverbs 21:21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honor. KJV He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor. NIV Love is not at all the same as mercy. It is Gods' mercy, not love that brings life. Prosperity often conflicts or distracts from righteousness.
Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! KJV How have you fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! NIV NIV says it was Jesus Christ who was cast out of heaven. Jesus Christ is the morning star. See Revelation 22:16 KJV or the inconsistent NIV.
Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. KJV You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. NIV In the NIV, one's mind can apparently be on anything, just be steadfast (steady) in your thoughts. In the KJV we know "thee" to be the Lord.
Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. KJV This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, 'We will not walk in it.'" NIV The KJV is not asking where is the good way. It is stating that the old paths ARE the good way.
Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. KJV "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." NIV The NIV's use of "from ancient times" suggests a beginning. John 1:1-2 tells us Jesus was already "in the beginning with God."
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; KJV But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. NIV For a person to "do good to them that hate you" is one of the signs of true love, and can only be done with the help of the Holy Spirit. NIV leaves this admonition out.
Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. KJV And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. NIV We can escape "the evil one" and still fall into plenty of evil. Also the NIV rejected an opportunity to praise God and acknowledge Him as all powerful.
Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offense unto me: for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. KJV Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." NIV Dictionary defines "stumbling block"- an obstacle or impediment. "offense" is defined - any violation of a moral or social code. There are NO obstacles or impediments that would hinder Jesus Christ! To imply such is blasphemy!
Matthew 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. KJV This verse is NOT in the NIV. It may be that the powers behind the NIV do not want you to know this powerful weapon against Satan.
Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. KJV This verse is NOT in the NIV The NIV omission leaves the option open for folks to one day believe someone else (antichrist) came to save them instead of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. KJV Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." NIV There is a limit to the forgiveness in the NIV. Better keep count.
Matthew 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows houses, and for a pretense make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. KJV This verse is NOT in the NIV. Possibly the powers behind the NIV see this as too harsh a language for so profitable a business.
Matthew 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. KJV When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. NIV The NIV does not tell you that the Prophets of old times ACCURATELY prophesied of the future.
