All of Gods’ creation was "good" as the Bible tells us. It is sin that corrupted everything from the fish in the sea to the stars in the heavens. Because of the choice to disobey God in the Garden of Eden all of Gods’ creation bears the scars of sin. It is sin which gave the rose her thorns, the lion his viciousness, and brought broken hearts into being as a fact of life for multitudes of unhappy folks.
Many deceived folks make a profession of Christ with their mouth and think they are saved, yet they continue on living their sinful lives and they will continue to reap the pain of such a life. I believe the Bible and life are trying to teach us, to help us see the depravity of our heart, and how very unlike God we really are. Only when we come to know this fact can we truly see Him as the Holy God that He is and our need to be saved.
The Bible teaches that The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Psalms 34:18
Suffering breaks the heart and the spirit of man so that the Spirit of God can minister to him. It is natural in a sin stained world for the flesh to love sin, sinful activity, and to despise God, and the Bible tells us that it is the flesh that wars against the spirit. Also, our mortality is considered when we suffer and often causes us to seek God and cease depending on our mortal flesh for our happiness and well being.
It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. Psalms 119:71
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Revelation 3:19
Our example is Christ who always asked the Father for help to endure the suffering, He never complained. Whether suffering for the mocking He endured and attempts to stone Him or whether the agony suffered on the Cross Christ endured in order to show us the way.
Yet some still ask
Why do we suffer? My response is,
So that we may be saved!
