Some time ago I encountered a web site that listed Jesus as one of the many prophets and labeled Him as a
good man worthy of honorable mention. My first reaction was one of being offended and of anger until I considered the pitiful state of ignorance of those publishing the mis-information. Unfortunately such claims are increasingly found in print and on web sites as a
progressive society becomes ever more secular and defiant of historical truth.
My soul then cried out from within me that Jesus is, and was so much more than a prophet and a teacher or just a good man. He is the only begotten Son of God. He is Lord of lords, King of kings. Jesus is the name ABOVE all names! He is Emmanuel, that is to say God with us in the flesh. Born into this world that He created, he is the only person ever miraculously born to a virgin. Blessed are those of us who know this is not mere propaganda or fantasy as many uninformed folks suppose it to be.
Even some who profess to be Christian, seem to think that in this life we can never know for sure that God and Jesus are who they claim to be. Those who believe such things do not understand the ability of God to influence the thinking, wisdom, knowledge, and life of repentant sinners. They have never experienced a life changing moment where God suddenly opens their eyes and their understanding. Not only that, they simply have a problem when it comes to believing the Word of God is truly God's Word and that is their major stumbling block.
The Bible tells us that once a person is born again they receive a new heart as God removes their stony (hard) heart. He gives us new ears to hear and new eyes to see each other and the world, and we receive the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16) as the Bible puts it. Only then can a person know and understand That God is real, and that Jesus Christ was never
just a prophet or merely a
We who know Christ Jesus do not say that He is God
as an act of faith. We say Jesus is real and is God because we know Him, we talk to Him and He communicates with us every day in many ways. He is evident in every part of His creation and that alone speaks volumes to every man woman and child on the planet whether or not they acknowledge the truth of the matter. It is hard to deny the hand and wisdom of God when we observe what He has made and set in motion, from the stars and planets rotating through space to the division of the lowest cell.
Do not be misled into thinking that believing in God and His Son Jesus Christ is but a mental exercise, or one of wishing and hoping. Believing is based on knowledge, including knowing what the Scriptures have to say. When we have saving faith born of knowledge, and become born again, at that point we become a new person and our new heart, mind, eyes, ears, and desires all become assets in our search for more of the truth of God.
While we believe that God and Christ are who they claim to be based on evidences from many sources, we don’t have so much evidence when it comes to the promises God made to us. We do have history to examine though and see if God is a reliable person and delivers on what He promises. When we examine the Scriptures and history we find that God can be relied upon to stand true to the promises He makes. This is where
Faith comes in and like our forefathers before us we receive His promises
by faith. We can receive those promises by faith based on the fact that we know Him. We know He is who and what He claims to be and He has an excellent past record of reliability. Not unlike the bank knowing you and having faith that you will repay the loan they gave you to buy your house or car.
It is by faith that we believe the promise that if we continue in Christ and do all that He commands that we will be raised up at the last day and given a new incorruptible body and will live forever in a paradise known as Heaven. Because we know Him we can have that faith and eagerly await what;
...Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. ~ 1 Corinthians 2:9
Before we can have faith in the promises of God and the Savior we have to know who and what He is and when we know Him, we will worship, serve, and OBEY in faith, because faith without works is a dead faith.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Notice the verse testifies that faith is in fact an evidence of something we cannot see. That is because as Ephesians 2:8 points out, even our faith, our ability to believe is a gift from God. Folks that is how depraved this world and we living here are. We are so lost and corrupted by the sin of Adam and Eve that we cannot even believe without help. We are helpless as lambs being led to the slaughter. We should think about that.
