The following is a brief article taken from the Christian publication "Gospel Tract News" dated December 1994. It is followed up with comments and relevant Scripture so that we may all be edified in truth and wisdom all these many years later.
On Sunday October 30, I watched a nationally televised program on angels. The promotions promised to open our eyes to these supernatural beings. As actress Stephanie Powers began her narration I felt uneasy. Soon I realized why. The angels she told about were not the angels I learned about at my mother's knee, or at Sunday School or had read about in the Bible. The angels, millions learned, were New Age entities bearing little resemblance to God's true ministers. Jesus Christ and God were never mentioned. References were made, however, to "a higher power" and "inner consciousness." We were told to pray to angels, to seek healing and guidance from them. They are our strength, protection and guidance, Powers told her television audience.
The telecast left me with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach for I knew that many people not firmly established in the Word of God would be led astray. Many will be attracted to the alluring paintings and testimonies of these spirit beings. God have mercy on those who deceive and those who would be deceived in the last days. The verse that kept coming to mind was how Satan and his angels could transform themselves into angels of light to deceive all they could. The New Age is a treacherous belief system that leads away from the true God. It appeals to the lusts of man and tries to fill the spiritual vacuum everyone has. It is a counterfeit. It is bogus. The New Age leaders and their followers (however sincere) will spend eternity in hell.

Comments and Scripture:
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. ~ Colossians 2:18-19
Jesus referred all worship, praise, and thanksgiving to God and to no other. He always instructed His Disciples, and therefore us today who are saved, to petition God and God alone for our needs. The Bible never tells Christians or anyone else to
seek healing and guidance from angels, nor are we told to worship or even acknowledge them, but instead to avoid contact with the spirit world outside of God Himself. Our thoughts and focus must be on God the Father through His Son Jesus Christ.
Not even one time does the Bible ever mention anything about there being such a thing as female angels.
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. ~ 1 John 4:1
The article we referenced is a perfect example of how satan draws people away through the frailty and lusts of the flesh. The paintings and the figurines of these so-called angels are beautiful and very much appeal to the eyes, especially to women for there is a romanticism about them that they are often drawn to. Not even one time does the Bible ever mention anything about there being such a thing as female angels. Every reference the Bible makes of angels is by a masculine name or the pronoun
he. The widely depicted female
angels with their flowing robes, wings, and seductively sweet faces and manners are nothing less than inventions of the New Age Religion. They are designed to get our eyes off of the Jesus of the Bible and to glory in the warm fuzzies of our flesh. You can be sure satan is the one behind such a lying deception.
This is one of many reasons why we need to know and understand what the Word of God teaches and to cultivate a keen sense of discernment. Ultimately, we cannot rely on anything less than the Word of God for the things we accept and embrace.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. ~ Hebrews 5:14 (emphasis added)
Some may wonder what is meant by
strong meat. It is the deeper truths of Gods Word, those things that are sometimes hard to hear, hard to accept and hard to embrace. The full unvarnished Word of God which can only be received by those who have studied and been taught precept upon precept; line upon line... (Isaiah 28:10) by the Holy Spirit. These are the Christians that are
of full age or mature in their knowledge of Gods Word.
Notice in our verse in Hebrews that in order to keep and strengthen our discernment ability that is given at the point of conversion, we are to use our senses. According to Noah Webster, to discern means to separate or distinguish, to discriminate, to judge, to make a distinction between. When we make a distinction we have decided that thing or person is different , set apart in some way. Stated simply, to discern is to judge. The very thing so many Christians today erroneously say they do not do and should not do. A Christian that does not judge does not line up with Bible teaching and has in essence been neutered.
Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? ~ 1 Corinthians 6:3
When our knowledge of what the Word of God teaches has progressed through prayer and study, and we have properly exercised and nurtured our sense of Spiritual discernment, we will usually know something is not right before we know what is not right. It does not matter if we are encountering a message, the one bringing the message, or a place. Listen to what the Spirit is saying to your spirit and then heed the advice! Don't dabble around thinking you can handle it and that you are somehow immune to deception and trickery. If the Holy Spirit tells you to flee or to turn away, it is for a reason and should never be ignored.
Too many will argue that it is merely a picture or a figurine that points one’s thoughts to good things. Could not the same be argued on behalf of the golden calf the Israelites made while Moses was on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments? God ordered that golden calf destroyed and Moses ground it into fine powder. The same needs to be done with these so called
angel depictions that are leading many from the truth.
Twenty-two years (2016) after that article was written about the program on
angels we see clearly the effects of such teaching whether in secular society or in the churches. Many mainstream churches have failed to speak out and warn their people of the dangers in embracing such entities.
Because many do not read and study the Bible and do not know the truth, millions of those professing to be Christians are actually praying to demons and devils disguised asangels of light.
Christian terminology has become increasingly common among people who live a wide variety of lifestyles and many of them display these
angelic beings in their home, their emails and their websites. When a discerning Christian spends a few minutes in conversation, they soon learn that most of these seemingly Christian people do not know the Jesus of the Bible. They worship a false Jesus, a false god. Even though most of them believe they are praying to and following the true God, they are not. Because many do not read and study the Bible and do not know the truth, millions of those professing to be Christians are actually praying to demons and devils disguised as
angels of light. They have no Spiritual discernment and therefore have been led astray and their end will unfortunately be the same as any unrepentant sinner...eternal hell.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. ~ Matthew 7:22-23
Folks, the devil and this world system are at war against God, His Christ, and those who follow Him in Truth and in Spirit. Not everyone and everything that presents as being Christian is Christian because deception is rampant and getting more so each passing day. Every true Christian has a duty to compare all things by the Word of God and to flee from that which proves to not be of God or from God.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: ~ 1 Peter 5:8
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; ~ 1 Timothy 4:1
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ~ 1 John 2:16
