When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: ~ Luke 13:25
A scenario such as this is simply unimaginable to many people today. The question then becomes is our surprise at being turned away because we don't believe the Word of God, or are we simply uninformed of it's message? Regardless of the reason, and no matter how much we try and deny the possibility that God could turn us away, our eternal destiny is at stake. Folks we better be sure we know the true Saviour before He shuts the door! In fact He made a way for us to be on the inside of that door before He closes it, but I wonder how many are or will be there...
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. ~ Matthew 7:14
Sadly it is true, few there be that find it because too many of us, though well meaning, only pay lip service to Jesus while following our own way, or that of
scholars. Trusting in our own selves or someone else instead of the unchanging Word of God, has caused many of us to follow an imitation
Jesus who has been planted in our path by the devil himself. As soon as we turn to sources of carnal understanding and doctrine, the Holy Spirit of God is quenched or prevented from acting in our lives because it is a rejection of Him and His authority over us. When we allow the Holy Spirit to act on our behalf, He will guide us into all truth (John 16:13) and help keep us on the true path. Though following the reasoning of ourselves or that of others may seem or feel right, it is just what the devil wants us to do because it gives him an opening to influence every aspect of the carnal thoughts and actions. When we are not under the authority of the Holy Spirit we are at the mercy of Satan himself and he only wants to deceive and ultimately destroy all who are made in the image of God.
Some of us like being seen as a
church goer and once inside the doors we become little more than a
pew warmer only there to be seen and to feel good about ourselves. Some folks attend services because they have found it to be
good for business in a place where many of their customers are church goers. Such a person is profited nothing at all aside from this world and is in fact simply a deceiver and a hypocrite. Jesus certainly will not open the door for such a person and in fact if the doctrine of the church and pastor are not true to the Bible then no one attending is profited spiritually.
I have talked to some people who know and use all of the Christian sounding terminology but there is little or no substance in their words. A moment later that same person will often erase what substance they may have appeared to have. They do this by their actions and by contradicting the words they speak, yet such folks are most often totally unaware of what they have done. Friends, God is not mocked and the Holy Spirit does not dwell in a dirty or unconverted temple no matter what those lips may speak.
Some professing Christians who think they are in good with the Lord are in fact unconverted and are still outside the door. Much like those anguished souls in Noah's day who came too late to be saved, they will be pounding on the door that will never open to them. The time to be sure our sins have been forgiven, the time to be sure we are seeking and serving the TRUE Jesus, the time to be on the inside of the door and to be ready...is NOW!
Friends, don’t rely on a childhood
confirmation, baptism, or statement for your eternal future. Confirmation in a church, joining a church or baptism does not save souls according to the Bible and neither do words spoken before the age of understanding and accountability. We never know when the door will close suddenly and each of us needs to ask,
Am I ready?.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. ~1 Thessalonians 5:2
This time period that we are in could be compared to the years before the worldwide flood in the days of Noah as warning after warning is falling on deaf ears for the most part. Some figure to address the situation of their soul
someday but not today. Others feel secure in that which they have believed and are consumed with their life pursuits and pleasures leaving little room for the one they claim to love.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. ~ John 14:23
True heartfelt repentance and obedience to the Word of God is not only needed but is a requirement to open the door that only Jesus Christ controls. My prayer is that one day we meet behind the door.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ~ John 3:3 and 14:6
And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. ~ Luke 4:4; Ephesians 2:8-9; Philippians 2:13; 2 Corinthians 5:17
