Throughout the Bible it seems that God is pleading with folks to believe who He is, what He has done, and how He has done it through His Son Jesus Christ. For those who have ears to hear and eyes to see there is much in the Word of God to show that Jesus Christ was no mortal man and is in fact God the creator. There is no substitute for thorough, frequent, and prayerful reading and study of the Bible if one is to arrive at a spiritual understanding of what God wants us to know.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. ~ 2 Timothy 2:15
Let us examine a few of the verses and passages that support the often denied claim that Jesus is in fact God and no other.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. ~ Genesis 1:1
For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. ~ Hebrews 3:4
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. ~ John 1:1-3
So we see that God and the Word are one and the same and have been since the beginning. We also learn that God made all things that have been made.
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. ~ 1 Corinthians 8:6
All things, everything, comes from God and all things are by Jesus Christ. God ordained all that there is, but it was Christ that created it all. You might think of it as God being the planner and Jesus Christ being the laborer who carried out the plan making it reality. The following verses further verify this fact of how all things were created.
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: ~ Ephesians 3:9
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. ~ Colossians 1:16-17
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. ~ John 4:24
From these verses we know that God is a Spirit and that Jesus is the visible image of the invisible Spirit God. It is by this same Jesus Christ that all things
consist, or are held together, supported, and maintained. Folks, it is Jesus Christ that keeps our world operating on schedule such as the sun, moon, tides, seasons, and everything else going as it was designed to do.
It was in Gods original plan to end the era of animal sacrifice and as the time came to do so He prepared a body in the womb of Mary that Jesus Christ might live and walk on the earth.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. ~ Matthew 1:23
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. ~ Luke 1:35
Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: ~ Hebrews 10:5
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; ~ Hebrews 2:14
Notice the verse says Jesus took
part of flesh and blood because as Jesus Christ in the flesh, He was still part God. We will discuss this more later and in another article.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. ~ John 1:14
Remember that the Word was in the beginning with God and that Word was and is God (John 1:1).
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. ~ Hebrews 2:9
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. ~ Hebrews 4:15
Now we see that the part of God referred to as
the Word came into the world (to the earth)and in the fullness of time, that which had come to earth as a baby, was revealed to man as Jesus the Christ of God when His human body was about thirty years of age. Some say Jesus was
fully man and
fully God but I do not believe this is what the Scriptures are telling us. It clearly states that Christ took
part of the flesh and blood that He might experience first-hand what the rest of us deal with on a daily basis including the temptations, sorrow, pain and disappointment we face. This enabled Christ Jesus to be a more compassionate Saviour. Otherwise if He were fully man He would not have been able to live a sinless life and it is living a sinless life and being wrongfully put to death by Satan that has condemned Satan and those who follow him, whether they follow ignorantly or with full knowledge. We should also consider that if Jesus were fully God, then He would have been lying when He said He did not know the answer to some of the questions He was asked by His Disciples and others.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. ~ John 1:10
This can only be referring to Jesus Christ/the Word/God who made everything but yet was unknown (disbelieved) as God when He revealed Himself to man. The Jews mocked, ridiculed, threatened, and even tried to kill Jesus more than once. They knew he was from the family of Joseph and Mary and supposed Joseph to be His father and so they accused Jesus of being a liar and a fake. (As many of us know, Joseph was not the biological father of Jesus, but it was the Holy Spirit that fathered Him re. Luke 1:35).
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. ~ Hebrews 2:10
John 8:24 is just one of nineteen verses in our King James Bible where Jesus said
I am He. Even in the Old Testament books of Deuteronomy and Isaiah, we read where Jesus tries in vain to reveal Himself to an unbelieving world. When the time was right He did come into the world and has informed us of the necessity of believing.
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. ~ John 8:24
There it is, we must believe what Jesus said;
I AM HE No doubt some will ask, if Jesus is God then how could He be killed on the cross. The Bible tells us in the verses referenced earlier that it was the Word part of God that became flesh and blood that died on the cross. God the Father did not die, but only that flesh and blood body which He had prepared for sacrifice and revealed to us as Jesus Christ. Remember the Spirit does not die.
Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. ~ 1 Timothy 1:17
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. ~ 1 Timothy 3:16
We don’t have to fully understand everything about the fact that Jesus is God, but we do have to believe it as the Bible reveals this mystery to us if we are to be saved. If we claim to be a Christian and yet do not believe that Jesus and God are one God then we are serving another
Jesus and not the Jesus of the Bible. It is Satan’s goal to confuse, and to get us to trust our carnal reasoning concerning spiritual matters which can only be understood and believed with a spiritual mind. Friends, beware because one of the marks of a cult is their denial of the actual identity of Jesus Christ. Only those who have repented as the Lord commanded we do and have been born again, have a spiritual mind and any hope of understanding the mysteries of the Almighty God.
And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. ~1 Corinthians 15:28
Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he. ~ Isaiah 41:4
When everything, meaning all creation, including man, sin and death, is taken out of the hand of the devil and put under the power of Jesus, then He (Jesus) will be subject again to the Father, God, so that God may once again be complete, finished,
all in all. Notice that the verse in Isaiah shows us that God is made up of both His revelation to man in the Old Testament and His revelation as Jesus Christ in the New Testament. Bible readers will remember how the mountains smoked in the days of Moses when God came down to the earth. In the New Testament He was given a body and came to earth in the person of Christ having taken
part of human nature as we read before in Hebrews 2:14.
See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. ~ Deuteronomy 32:39
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one. ~ John 10:28-30
Consider also the following relevant verses.
Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it? ~ Isaiah 43:13
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. ~ Isaiah 43:25
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. ~ 2 Corinthians 4:4
Jesus told us: If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. ~ John 14:7 (also verse 9).
The Bible further informs us:
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. ~ 1 Corinthians 2:14
Friends, only those who are born again and taught of the Holy Spirit of God have any hope of coming to any understanding at all that Jesus Christ is in reality Immanuel, God with us. You can be sure Satan has destroyed the faith and hope of many on this point because they have insisted on coming to an answer concluded with the carnal understanding. The good news is that Satan can be overcome, but only with a spiritual knowledge and wisdom brought about by patient prayer and a seeking to be taught of God, not man. For those who sincerely seek and wrestle before the Lord with this issue, God will give them an understanding.
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. ~ Psalms 51:6
And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; ~ Revelation 2:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. ~ Revelation 22:13
The following verses also testify that Jesus is God
Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. ~ Isaiah 48:12
Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I. ~ Isaiah 52:6
Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. ~ John 8:28
Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. ~ John 13:19
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. ~ Revelation 1:18
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. ~ Revelation 2:23
