And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ~ Genesis 2:7
Now we can see that verse twenty-seven in Genesis chapter one was not the whole story of God creating man. He goes into more detail in our second verse found in Genesis 2:7 giving us more information to help us understand the process.
As we read further in Genesis we come to verses 21-23 in the second chapter.
And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. ~ Genesis 2:21-23
Here God has told us what He did to create woman and how she came not from the earth as the man did, but she came from the man.
So we see that God gives us a bit of information here and a bit there so that we may form the whole picture as He has revealed it to us. This is in keeping with the teaching in Isaiah about whom shall the Lord teach knowledge, and whom shall He make to understand doctrine (Isaiah 28:9).
How does the Lord teach us?
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:” ~ Isaiah 28:10
He teaches just as He did in Genesis one and two, a little here and a little there. Precept upon precept. The Bible is full of examples of this teaching method as God uses it constantly from Genesis to Revelation and unfortunately some try to go around God’s methods.
The Bible reveals some over here and some over there, and that over there will not make sense to us UNTIL we have absorbed and understand the prior part. THEN we can add the next part to our understanding and get a more complete picture of what God is saying.
God teaches Doctrine in this same manner, including Salvation. We find in some verses God goes straight to the final result and tells us something about being saved. Then, often in different places, He will lay out requirements that must be met, how we are to maintain, and how we are to deal with sin in our lives. We put together the complete picture of Salvation by gleaning a little from here and a little there until the picture becomes clear as to what God requires and expects.
Folks, we cannot take an isolated verse or even one group of verses and create doctrine at the expense of other verses and passages. To do otherwise is to fall into the snare of satan.
- Have you correctly understood the Salvation message with all it’s pieces?
- Have you followed those instructions from the heart and been born again?
- Are you reading the Word of God daily so as to grow and mature in Christ?
- Are you following Christ Jesus or the doctrines of men?
- Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ~ John 14:6
