On the night of August 9, 2001 then President George W. Bush informed America that he was going to allow stem cell research to proceed on human embryos. This research was to be limited to the
sixty stem cell lines already in existence. These embryos were the result of in-vitro fertilization that takes place in a laboratory dish and were reportedly for purposes of helping infertile couples to have a baby. The reasoning was that these frozen embryos were not needed and would eventually be destroyed anyway. Therefore mankind should make every attempt to benefit from them.
Fast forward to 2009 when then President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order that lifted the ban on federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research, thereby removing the limited protection put in place by President Bush. Both the House and the Senate have come out in favor of this research continuing and going forward.
The lifting of the ban has been challenged in the courts and ultimately dismissed and today the number of human embryos available for experimentation is growing and funded by the American taxpayer dollars. 1
The fact is that mankind has no right to interfere in the life process for any purpose other than properly adjudicated criminal cases of adults. Every year thousands, perhaps more, of the human embryos are created in the Petri dishes of a laboratory for the purpose of giving some infertile couple a baby and now may end up in your next medication or therapy.
Folks, a human embryo has all of the makings of a human being, just as a acorn has all the makings of an Oak tree. To interrupt the life process once an egg has been fertilized, is to take a life. What is an embryo today has the full potential to eventually be a baby, and a man or a woman in the fullness of time. To kill that embryo, regardless of how it came to be, is murder.
Stem Cell Research as well as Embryonic Stem Cell Research, reportedly has the potential to open up new cures for some diseases, even aid in growing new body parts and curing many forms of paralysis. There are no doubt millions who are even now salivating at the prospect of being delivered of their illnesses and their bodily afflictions after sacrificing a human life in the name of Science. Most especially the rich around the world have their hopes on such research looking to that same science for their
miracle cure. How is it that these people believe that their life is more important than those lives they helped to snuff out? Or how is it that they believe they have a right to more time in this world, free of their suffering? Most likely they don't think of those who were killed or even care, but I assure you that God does think on them and does care, be they born or unborn. Friend, if you know God you know this to be true.
Millions of people, including myself have lived for decades with chronic pain that has altered our lives. In spite of circumstances we may find ourselves in some of us recognize that God has blessed us in ways that would not have been possible had we carried on a “normal” life. When such pain comes to live with a person day in and day out it gets very wearisome, and God either heals us or He helps us through moment by moment as we look to Him for our hope and our strength. Consider;
Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. ~ Isaiah 48:10
Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes. Psalms 119:67, 71
We must remember that even Christ learned obedience by the things He suffered, (Hebrews 5:8). Are we any better that we should escape what He has allowed to come to us? Do we have the right to kill that which God has created in His own image, in order to enhance, or prolong our own life? Don’t misunderstand me, I believe God gave us medication to relieve sickness and suffering, but He did not give us the right to take a human life in order to do so.
This research has a foundation built on the death of human life and those who knowingly submit to the treatment or medication derived from it have simply committed murder for hire. Most people today, even many of those professing Christ will decry such a message but the fact remains that the hands of all involved will be covered in the same blood. No number of lives saved, or suffering alleviated, can ever make right or okay the taking of innocent human life.
