Judging Clothing Worn

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. ~ Deuteronomy 22:5

Our verse is in line with many other commands that are universal and unchanging, so it stands to reason that the command for women to abstain from wearing that which pertains to men would be as equally unchanging.

Recently a woman wrote to tell me that the Bible has that verse because some women were dressing as men in order to get into religious meetings where women were not allowed. Along with her information came an ignorant admonition for me to not judge or condemn, but to love.

If one reads, believes, and understands the Bible they know that it is Gods’ Word that condemns and that one cannot be a Christian who refuses to judge all things righteously.

Folks, the Bible was not written with a local or any other culture or practice in mind except the commands of God. His people, then and now, are a “called out people” to be different and separate from the world. We are not to compare ourselves to the world, but only to Gods Word.

Unlike the world today, God is not interested in preserving cultures of any race or creed. He calls us to be new creatures, defined by Him and His Word.

The fact is that pants pertain to men as a defining part of their clothing and in the eyes of God is unsuitable for women to wear. Likewise for men who would wear that which pertains to women which includes dresses.

Forget what they did five hundred years ago or two thousand years ago. The point is that in every age there are certain clothes that point to men and others that point to women. Regardless of the culture you may be in or come from God expects His people to throw it aside and CONFORM to His standard. Those who do not are abominable to Him.

In spite of these clear facts people argue, trying to justify what they have chosen to do. The fact is that Jesus has given us the liberty to do as we please but we should not be surprised when we don’t like His final judgment of us and our actions. He told us beforehand.
