How is it that one who says they are a Christian knows so little about actual Bible teaching? In part it is because many of them have never actually been born again and are therefore not a Christian.
Today people are being told to just repeat a prayer or to
accept Jesus into their heart. Having done this they are told that they are a Christian and are saved and going to Heaven when they die. These folks have no desire to read the Bible on a regular basis if at all and for a few days may watch their words or behavior but quickly revert back to life as before. Only thing really different is that they now have applied the label of
Christian to that life.
Some perhaps were born again but the Bible teaches that without confession of sins, without repentance, there can be no salvation, no born again life and no Heaven. If they were saved, born again, they would be hungry to know God more, to read His Word the Bible, and to grow in pleasing Him.
Instead of prayerfully reading and studying the Bible, they have been led away from the Gospel once delivered to the saints. They have taken the easy road and embraced what a denomination, a church, or popular religion teaches as Christianity.
Countless times in person and online I have encountered those professing Christianity who have no concern for how they conduct their daily lives or their business. Claiming that has nothing to do with their salvation, they put their religious life into a separate box and pretty much live like the rest of the world. Having been told that all their sins, past, present, and future have been forgiven, they have a blank check. However, when we read the Word of God, we find;
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; ~ Romans 3:25
Folks, it reads,
...sins that are past... Once we are saved, sin has to be dealt with regularly by repenting in prayer, and sins not repented of will be dealt with on Judgment Day.
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. ~ 1 John 2:6
How did Jesus walk? He walked in righteousness, holiness, and obedience. And that is how He expects those who wear His name to walk in this life. Our daily aspiration should be that of being more like Jesus. To be more pleasing to the Father, to be filled with His Spirit that we might stand against the world, the devil and the desires of our own flesh. That is how a blood bought Christian should walk. How are YOU walking my friend?
